SalMar Aker Ocean chooses Techano for upgrade of Offshore Farm 1 (OF1)

Techano has received strategic order for equipment for Salmar Aker Ocean’s fish farm, Offshore Farm 1 and with this continues to strengthen its position within handling equipment onboard fish farms operating in exposed and offshore conditions.

The Offshore Farm 1 is scheduled for a major upgrade, to among other things make it more secure. The upgrade will be carried out at Aker Verdal during 2022.

The recent order includes 2 sets of Fish Transfer Systems (FTS500) The FTS500 is designed to ensure safe and efficient transfer of live fish between aquaculture installations and live fish carrier (LFC). Designed operation in harsh environment maintaining Techano’s high standard with regards to HSE and fish welfare.

The FTS500 system includes safety measures such break away couplings and valve escape prevention valves. Each system consists of 2 sets of pipes and hoses with individual valves in high grade materials for marine protection. The valves have failsafe operation in case of loss of power or emergency disconnect.

«»Techano confirms its world-leading position as a supplier of advanced load handling equipment in offshore aquaculture, a growing and important market for the future” says Øystein Bondevik, Sales & Business Development Director at Techano.

Techano, Safeway and Intellilift join forces to create an all-electric gangway to equip the ‘SOV for the future’

Dutch offshore access specialist Safeway B.V. and Kristiansand-based sister company Techano AS have signed a corporation agreement with Intellilift AS from Norway to equip the ‘SOVs for the future’. Under the agreement, Intellilift   will be a preferred supplier of their proprietary technology related to power systems, automation and remote-control systems.

The package system includes all-electric version of Safeway’s original Gannet 3D motion compensated gangway, elevator and 3D crane. The package

may be extended with other products as davits and winches.

Key features of the autonomous gangway are:
• All electric, incl. hybrid-battery
• Remote operation
• Bridge control system
• Auto docking, hover mode

The collaboration will accelerate the development and supply of a fully electrical and automated system, supporting the industrial green shift.

Presently, the Gannet is Safeway’s most advanced type of access system for SOVs, allowing personnel to move safely between the offshore service vessel and offshore wind turbines. Made with trolley operations in mind, the Safeway Gannet has a stepless transfer and 1.2m transit width.

Designed for installation on newbuild SOV’s, the Gannet gangway combines unique features, such as hover mode, roll compensation and highest workability in the market, with strongly reduced actuator motions.

The shift to full electrification, referred to as IntelliSafe, does not only represent a climate-smart technology, it also reduces the overall environmental impact during the construction phase of an offshore wind farm.

The full electrical and automated solutions offer the advantages over hydraulic solutions in terms of power consumption, controllability, and remote operation.

Techano TC 2000 3D crane

Wijnand van Aalst, CEO of Van Aalst Group, to which Safeway and Techano belong, says: “By combining the outstanding performance of our Gannet gangway as well as the advanced load handling and state-of-the-art lifting equipment of Techanco with the smart and innovative electrical drive and controls supplied by Intellilift, the new fully electrical Gannet gangway will be ready for all future SOV requirements. We are committed to driving our industry into a more sustainable future and we are confident that cooperating with a reputed company, such as Intellilift, guarantees a significant step up. Servicing wind farms will become safer and easier than ever before.”

Øystein Bondevik, Commercial Director at Techano, comments: “With our joint skills we are able to supply a complete package, where the logistics on board the SOVs can be handled safely and efficient, for both personnel and cargo. The IntelliSafe control system will be located on the SOV’s bridge and from there the operator can control both the 3D crane and gangway. The system includes autonomous operation with the option of remote access and works closely with the vessel’s DP system.”

Intellilift’s Stig Trydal adds: “For both our companies innovation is the key driver behind this cooperation. We are very excited about this opportunity and are looking forward working together with Safeway/Techano on this exciting journey towards more sustainable offshore operations all over the word.”

“Havfarmen” – the world’s largest fish farm for exposed waters

Techano wins order for equipment “Havfarmen”, the world’s largest fish farm for exposed waters

The Norwegian engineering company Techano AS, part of the Dutch Van Aalst Group of Companies, has secured a substantial contract to design and produce highly specialized offshore and marine equipment for the world’s largest floating aquaculture construction “Havfarmen”. Havfarmen is designed for exposed waters, and aims to make use of new areas for aquaculture.

“I am very pleased to announce that Techano was able to secure the order for two advanced Rail Mounted Service Units (RMSU) and an offshore crane.”

Øystein Bondevik, Commercial Director at Techano

The contract was entered with CIMC Raffles in Yantai, China. This yard has one of the world’s largest drydocks, with a length of 400 meters and a width of 120 metres. The agreement is for the first of two planned “Havfarm” units.

The 385 metres long and 59,5 metres wide aquaculture construction– owned and operated by the Norwegian aquaculturem company Nordlaks–is designed by NSK Ship Design, will hold up to 10.000 tonnes of fish. This first Havfarm will be permanently moored in a position southwest of Hadseløya in Nordland, Norway. The area has up until now been impossible to utilize for aquaculture.

The RMSU is unique and a bespoke design for this Havfarm, enabling the farm operators take care of aquaculture equipment and the fish in a safe and efficient manner. One RMSU will be mounted on rail on each side of the construction. Due to the outreach of 25 meters of the cranes on the RMSU, the full width of the six fish pens can be reached. A man basket can also allow operators to reach all parts of the pens, measuring 50 by 50 meters on the surface. Furthermore, the RMSU allows for ROV support and control.

Wijnand van Aalst, CEO of the Van Aalst Group, said “Techano’s knowledge of the fish farm industry and offshore cranes in combination with Van Aalst’s knowledge of gantry mounted crane units have proved to be a winning combination in this case. Moreover, the Van Aalst Group is a regular supplier to CIMC Raffles. Entering the rapid developing offshore fish farm market, establishing strong foothold in Norway and a jumpstart in the specialized 3D offshore cranes were our main drivers to invest in Techano. With this ‘milestone’ contract, the mutual vision of Techano and Van Aalst receives a flying start.”
